Malone Springs is a beautiful natural area in Klamath County, Oregon, U.S. It is part of the huge Fremont-Winema National Forest. You can find it about 25 miles northwest of Klamath Falls along Oregon Route 140.

Malone Springs is a great place to start a canoe trip. It offers access to a long canoe route that winds through the western edge of the Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge. Here, you can get up close to the marshlands of Upper Klamath Lake. You can also enjoy amazing views of old, tall trees on nearby Pelican Butte.

The area around Malone Springs has a campground. It's perfect for camping, boating, fishing, and watching wildlife. There's also a simple boat launch to get your canoe or kayak into the water.

Paddle Through Nature

Malone Springs flows into a huge marsh and wetland area. This area is part of the Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge. It covers about 15,000 acres! You can explore this refuge by boat using the Upper Klamath Canoe Trail, which is about 9.5 miles long. You can also start your canoe trip from other spots like Rocky Point and Crystalwood Lodge.

Amazing Wildlife and Plants

The western shore of Upper Klamath Lake and nearby Agency Lake are very important. They act like a highway for many birds that travel long distances. These birds fly through here during their spring and fall migrations.

You'll see tall Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir trees right at the edge of Upper Klamath Lake. In some spots, there are also small groups of aspen, willow, and cottonwood trees along the shoreline. These trees are super important! They are nesting spots for majestic bald eagles and graceful osprey.
