Man of the House is a fun comedy film from 1995. It stars Chevy Chase, Farrah Fawcett, and Jonathan Taylor Thomas. The movie is about a boy named Ben (played by Jonathan Taylor Thomas) who isn't too happy about his mom's new boyfriend, Jack (played by Chevy Chase). Jack is a kind lawyer, but he doesn't know that some people he put in trouble are now looking for him! The film was shot in sunny Los Angeles, California, and beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The Story of Ben and Jack

Ben Archer and his mom, Sandy, moved to Seattle for a fresh start. They had a very close bond, doing everything together. After some time, Sandy decided she was ready to get married again. She started dating Jack Sturges, a lawyer.

Jack was a good guy, but Ben wasn't happy about him moving in. Ben felt like his mom was making a mistake. He tried to make Jack feel unwelcome. Jack tried his best to connect with Ben, but it was hard.

Joining the Indian Guides

Ben came up with a plan to get rid of Jack. He pretended to be interested in the Indian Guides, a father-son program from the YMCA. Jack wasn't thrilled, but Sandy convinced him to join. Ben managed to make Jack look silly at the meetings.

Jack eventually told Sandy he couldn't do the Indian Guides anymore. Ben pretended to be very upset, comparing it to his own dad leaving. But Jack overheard Ben bragging about his tricks to a friend. Jack felt sad but didn't tell Sandy.

Building a Bond

Instead, Jack asked for advice from Chet Bronski, another dad in the Indian Guides. Chet explained that Ben was probably afraid Jack would take his mom away. Chet encouraged Jack to keep trying to bond with Ben.

Jack decided to make the Indian Guides fun. Ben also started to become good friends with Norman, Chet's son. Just as Jack and Ben were getting closer, something dangerous happened. Jack's car had trouble, and he missed a canoe trip he promised Ben.

Ben was very hurt. It reminded him of his own father breaking promises. Jack later explained that his car trouble was actually caused by some people who were upset with him because of his job. Ben understood that Jack didn't mean to let him down.

A New Family

Jack promised Ben they would go on a camping trip. He even turned down a job transfer to keep his promise. During the camping trip, the people who had messed with Jack's car showed up in the woods.

Jack and Ben worked together to distract them. The other Indian Guides helped, and the bad guys were stopped. Ben was very impressed with Jack. He finally gave his approval for Jack to propose to Sandy.

Jack and Sandy got married, and the Indian Guides were there. Even though life isn't always perfect, they were all happy as a new family.

Soundtrack

A soundtrack for Man of the House was planned by Walt Disney Records. However, it was never released. This was because Disney couldn't get permission to use some of the songs. Two of these songs were "Gonna Make You Sweat" by C+C Music Factory and "Return to Innocence" by Enigma.

Even though the soundtrack wasn't released, the song "Hit the Road Jack" by Percy Mayfield was approved for it. "Return to Innocence" was used in the movie during Jack and Sandy's wedding. Different versions of the song were also used in movie advertisements.
