Mance Post (born January 11, 1925 – died December 2, 2013) was a famous Dutch illustrator. An illustrator is an artist who creates pictures for books, magazines, or other media. Mance Post was especially known for her beautiful drawings in children's books.
She brought many stories to life with her art. She worked with several well-known Dutch authors. Her most famous collaborations were with Guus Kuijer and Toon Tellegen.

Her Journey as an Illustrator
Mance Post started her career in 1946. Her very first book was Het boek van Thijs en Claartje. This book was written by J.A. Schreuder.
She quickly became a recognized talent. In 1980, she won an award called the Vlag en Wimpel. This was for her illustrations in the book Ik woonde in een leunstoel. This book was written by Guus Kuijer. She won the same award again in 1984. That time, it was for Het geheim van Toet-Mu-Is III by Mansfield Kirby.
Working with Guus Kuijer
Mance Post illustrated many books by Guus Kuijer. She is especially famous for her work on his Madelief book series. These books were very popular.
The Madelief series even became a TV show in 1994. Later, it was made into a movie called Scratches in the Table in 1998. In 1982, Mance Post and Guus Kuijer won a German award. It was called the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis. They won it for the German version of Krassen in het tafelblad.
Collaborating with Toon Tellegen
Starting in 1985, Mance Post began working with Toon Tellegen. She illustrated many of his books for almost 30 years. Their partnership created many beloved children's stories.
In 2006, when she was 81 years old, Mance Post received another important award. It was the Zilveren Penseel. She won this award for her illustrations in Tellegen's book Midden in de nacht.
Other Notable Works
Mance Post also illustrated books for many other Dutch authors. These included famous writers like Annie M. G. Schmidt, Ienne Biemans, and Hans Hagen. Her illustrations helped make their stories even more special.
In 2020, some of her drawings for Annie M. G. Schmidt's books were shown online. This was part of an exhibition by the Dutch Literature Museum. It celebrated 25 years since Annie M. G. Schmidt passed away.
In 2007, Mance Post received a very special honor. She was the first person ever to win the Max Velthuijs-prijs. This award celebrates an artist's entire collection of work. It showed how much her art meant to the world of children's books.
Her Legacy
Mance Post passed away in December 2013. She left behind a wonderful collection of illustrations. Her art continues to inspire young readers and artists. She is remembered as one of the most important Dutch children's book illustrators.
