Manju (era) facts for kids
Manju was a special time period in Japanese history, like how we have years today. It was a "Japanese era name" or nengō. This era came after a period called Jian and before another called Chōgen. The Manju era lasted for about four years, from July 1024 to July 1028. During this time, the emperor of Japan was Emperor Go-Ichijō.
What Happened During the Manju Era?
During the Manju era, a few important things took place:
- 1024 (Manju 1): A very important person named Fujiwara no Kintō decided to stop his public work. He retired and moved to a quiet place called Kitayama, which was in the northern part of Kyoto.
- May 4, 1026 (Manju 3, 15th day of the 4th month): People observed a partial lunar eclipse. This is when the Moon passes through only part of Earth's shadow, making it look a bit darker.
- 1027 (Manju 4): Fujiwara no Michinaga, another very influential person in Japanese history, passed away at the age of 62.
