Early Life and Education
Manolo Caro was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, in 1985. His parents are Norma Alicia Serrano and Gil Caro.
He first studied architecture at the TEC de Monterrey in Mexico City. Later, he decided to follow his passion for filmmaking. He studied directing at the International Film School in Cuba. He also trained at the studio of Juan Carlos Corazza in Madrid, Spain.
Caro met actress Cecilia Suárez when he was a teenager. She visited his high school for a play reading. His teacher, who was Suárez's cousin, introduced them.
Manolo Caro's Career
Manolo Caro has his own film company called Noc Noc Cinema. This company is part of Woo Films. By late 2019, Woo/Noc Noc was known for developing many strong TV and film projects in Mexico.
His first full-length movie was No sé si ... o dejármelas largas in 2013. He wrote this film based on a play he had written earlier. Manolo Caro is the only Mexican director to have a movie in the country's top ten box office for three years in a row.
In May 2019, Caro signed a special four-year agreement with Netflix. Netflix had already shown his popular series The House of Flowers since 2018. This deal meant he would create more TV shows for the streaming platform. At that time, he was working on Someone Has To Die for Netflix.
A Netflix executive said that Caro has a "great talent" for telling "relevant, unique, and personal stories." They called him one of the most interesting voices of his generation. Cecilia Suárez has mentioned that Caro's background in architecture helps him find new and interesting ways to film scenes. She added that he also finds unique places for his characters.
Out of all his works up to 2019, only the film Amor de mis amores does not star Cecilia Suárez.
