Prasasti Mantyasih
Mantyasih inscription

The Mantyasih inscription is a very old stone carving from the year 907 CE. It's also known as the Balitung charter or Kedu inscription. This important stone was found in a village called Ngadireja Parakan Temanggung in Central Java, Indonesia. Today, you can see it at the Radyapustaka Museum in Surakarta.

King Balitung from the Sanjaya dynasty of the ancient Mataram Kingdom created this inscription. It's special because it lists the kings who ruled Mataram before King Balitung.

The inscription also mentions that Mantyasih village was given a special status called sima. This meant the land was tax-free. Even today, in Mateseh village, you can find a stone mortar believed to have been used during the sima ceremony. The inscription also talks about two mountains, Mount Susundara and Wukir Sumbing, which are known today as Mount Sundoro and Sumbing.
