Manuel Asur facts for kids
Manuel Asur (full name: Manuel Asur GONZÁLEZ GARCÍA) was born in 1947 in Güeria Carrocera, a place in San Martín del Rey Aurelio, Asturias, Spain. He is a famous writer, known for his essays and poems written in the Asturian language. Many people see him as one of the very first modern poets to write in Asturian.
Manuel Asur has a special degree called a PhD in Philosophy. This means he studied deep ideas about life and knowledge.
His book, Cancios y poemes pa un riscar (which means 'Songs and Poems to a Dawn'), came out in 1977. This book was super important! It helped start a big change in Asturian literature, often called the surdimientu (meaning 'rebirth' or 'awakening'). Manuel Asur's poems were new and exciting, different from anything written before in Asturian.
Many of his writings talk about important social and political events happening at the time. Some of his poems became very popular in Asturias in the 1970s. This was because a music group called Nuberu used them as lyrics for their songs!
In 1987, he also wrote a book of short stories called Hai una llinia trazada ('There's a Drawn Line'). He said these stories felt "almost like monologues," which are long speeches by one person.
Today, Manuel Asur writes articles for a newspaper called La Nueva España. He also works for the Asturian government in a department that deals with rural areas and fishing.
