Manuel Lanzini (born 15 February 1993) is an Argentine professional footballer. He plays as an attacking midfielder for Argentine Primera División club River Plate.
Lanzini started his career at River Plate, where he grew up in their youth system. He even scored the fastest goal in the famous "Superclásico" derby, just 43 seconds into the match! He also played on loan for Fluminense in Brazil.
In 2014, Manuel joined Al Jazira in the UAE. A year later, he moved to West Ham in England, first on loan, then permanently. He was a key player until a serious knee injury in 2018. After a lot of hard work, he returned to play for five more seasons. His time at West Ham ended with a big win: the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League trophy.
Manuel made his first appearance for the Argentina national team in 2017. Sadly, his knee injury meant he missed the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He is known for his great dribbling skills, speed, and ability to get past defenders. People call him "La Joya," which means "the jewel."

Manuel Lanzini's Football Journey
Early Days at River Plate
Manuel Lanzini showed his amazing football skills from a young age. He played indoor soccer and stood out in his local club. A famous scout, Ramón Maddoni, who discovered players like Juan Román Riquelme, wanted Manuel to try out for Boca Juniors. But Manuel only wanted to play for his favorite team, Club Atlético River Plate.
In 2002, his dream came true, and he joined River Plate's youth academy. He started as a playmaker, helping his team win trophies. In 2008, his team won their division, and Manuel scored nine goals. He even scored two goals in a big 3-0 win against Boca Juniors!
Joining the First Team at River Plate
In 2010, when Manuel was just 17, River Plate's first-team coach, Ángel Cappa, invited him to train with the senior squad. He played in friendly matches and impressed everyone. His official debut came on August 8, 2010, against Tigre. River Plate won 1-0.
Manuel was one of the youngest players ever to play for River Plate's first team. He even helped set up a goal in a 3-2 victory against Independiente.
Time in Brazil with Fluminense
On July 19, 2011, Manuel Lanzini moved to Brazil to play for Fluminense on a loan. He made his debut in a 3-0 win. He scored his first goal in a 2-1 victory against São Paulo.
Manuel's great performances made the club president call him "the new Neymar"! He scored an important goal in the "Fla-Flu" derby, a big rivalry match in Rio de Janeiro. After his loan ended, he returned to River Plate.
Back to River Plate and Big Wins
Manuel returned to River Plate in 2012. He even got to wear the famous number 10 shirt, which is a special number for playmakers. At first, he didn't play every game.
But when Ramón Díaz became the new coach, Manuel started playing more often. He scored a goal in a 2-0 win against San Martín (SJ). He became a regular starter for the team.
Making History in the Superclásico
In 2013, Manuel scored his first goal in the "Superclásico" derby against Boca Juniors. This goal was scored in just 43 seconds, making it the fastest goal in the derby's history! River Plate finished second in the league that season.
Winning Trophies with River Plate
In 2014, Manuel helped River Plate have one of their best years. They won the Torneo Final 2014 trophy. He scored again in a Superclásico victory against Boca Juniors, which was a very important win for River Plate. Manuel played a big part in these successes before moving on.
Playing in the UAE with Al Jazira
On August 6, 2014, Manuel Lanzini moved to the Al Jazira Club in the UAE Pro-League. He signed a four-year deal. At 21 years old, he was the youngest foreign player to play in that league. Many clubs from England, Spain, and Italy were interested in him.
Adventures with West Ham United

Starting Strong in England
On July 22, 2015, Manuel joined Premier League team West Ham United on a loan. He scored on his debut in a UEFA Europa League match. His first league goal came against Liverpool just three minutes into the game, helping West Ham win 3-0 at Anfield for the first time since 1963! West Ham later signed him permanently.
Key Player and Awards
In the 2016–17 season, Manuel played 39 games and scored eight goals. He scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace. He also scored a crucial goal against Tottenham Hotspur that stopped them from winning the Premier League title. He was voted the second-best player for West Ham that year.
Battling Back from Injury
In May 2018, Manuel suffered a very serious knee injury during training. This meant he couldn't play in the 2018 FIFA World Cup for Argentina. He worked hard to recover and finally returned to play for West Ham in February 2019. He continued to be a valuable player for the team.
A Goal to Remember
On October 18, 2020, Manuel scored an amazing goal against Tottenham Hotspur. West Ham was losing 3-0 with only minutes left, but Manuel scored a spectacular goal from far away in the last seconds, making the score 3-3! This goal won him the Premier League Goal of the Month award. It was a truly unforgettable moment!
Manuel left West Ham United in June 2023 when his contract ended.

On March 23, 2018, he scored his first goal for Argentina in a friendly match against Italy, helping his team win 2-0. He was named in Argentina's squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but sadly, he suffered another knee injury just before the tournament. This meant he couldn't play in the World Cup.
