Manuel María Ponce Brousset (born April 5, 1874, in Arequipa, Peru – died July 18, 1966, in Lima) was a Peruvian military officer. He briefly served as the President of Peru for just two days in August 1930. He was an "interim" president, meaning he held the position temporarily until a new leader could take over properly.
A Short Time as President
In August 1930, Peru was going through a big change. The country had been led by Augusto B. Leguía for eleven years. His rule was very strong, almost like a dictatorship.
A military leader named Luis Miguel Sánchez Cerro started a movement in Arequipa to change the government. He successfully removed Leguía from power.
While Sánchez Cerro was traveling to Lima, the capital city, Manuel María Ponce Brousset stepped in. He became the temporary president for just two days, from August 25 to August 27, 1930. His job was to keep things stable until Sánchez Cerro arrived and officially took over as the new leader.
After his very brief time as president, Manuel María Ponce Brousset lived a long life. He passed away on July 18, 1966, in Lima, when he was 92 years old.
