Manuel Ortega (painter) facts for kids
Manuel Ortega (born in 1921 – died on 14 April 2014) was a very talented Spanish artist. He was born in Madrid, the capital city of Spain.
Ortega was many things: a painter, a muralist (someone who paints large pictures on walls), a sculptor (someone who makes art by shaping materials), a designer, a portrait painter (someone who paints pictures of people), and an engraver (someone who makes prints from etched designs).
He created more than 200 large wall paintings, called murals. He also made beautiful stained glass windows. You can find his amazing stained glass in many important buildings across Spain. These include cathedrals, seminaries, palaces, hotels, and other big developments.
In 1998, Manuel Ortega won a special international competition. He was chosen to design the windows for the famous Cathedral of Almudena in Madrid. This was a very important achievement for him.
Manuel Ortega passed away in Madrid in 2014. He was 92 years old.
