Manuel Ramírez Ibáñez (born May 21, 1856, in Arjona – died January 1925, in Madrid) was a talented Spanish painter. He was mostly known for his paintings that showed important historical events and everyday life scenes, which are called genre art.

Manuel Ramírez Ibáñez's Life
Manuel Ramírez Ibáñez moved to Madrid when he was young. There, he began his art studies at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. This was a very important art school in Spain.
Early Art Exhibitions
While studying, Manuel often showed his paintings at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. This was a big art show in Spain. In 1876, he showed two paintings. In 1878, he showed six paintings.
He won a Third Class prize for a painting about the death of Francisco Pizarro. This painting was also shown at the Exposition Universelle, a world's fair in Paris.
Studying in Rome
In 1879, Manuel received a special scholarship. This allowed him to continue his art studies in Rome, Italy. His first painting from Rome was in 1881. It showed a classical scene from the ancient Roman baths in Pompeii.
In 1883, he finished a very large painting. It was called "Alms for the Funeral of Don Álvaro de Luna". This painting won a Second Class prize at the National Exhibition. Later, in 1892, he won another Second Class prize for his painting "The Piano Lesson".
Teaching and Later Works
Manuel Ramírez Ibáñez also worked as a teacher. He was a Professor at the School of Arts and Crafts in Madrid. After another famous painter, José Casado del Alisal, passed away, Manuel was asked to finish some of his paintings. These paintings were in the Basilica of San Francisco el Grande, a large church.
Finally, in 1910, Manuel won a First Class prize at the National Exhibition. This was for his painting called "Before the Class". After he passed away in 1925, three of his paintings were shown at the National Exhibition in 1926.
