Manuel de Pedrolo i Molina (1918 – 1990) was a famous writer from Catalonia, a region in Spain. He wrote many different kinds of books, including novels, short stories, poems, and plays. Manuel de Pedrolo's Life Story
Manuel de Pedrolo was born in 1918 in a small town called L'Aranyó, in the Segarra area of Catalonia. After the Spanish Civil War, he moved to Barcelona. There, he worked many different jobs while also writing in his free time.
From 1974 onwards, he was able to focus completely on writing. He wrote his own books, translated books by other authors, and helped with publishing. Manuel de Pedrolo passed away in Barcelona in 1990 after being ill for a long time.

The story is about two young people, Alba, who is fourteen, and Dídac, a nine-year-old boy. They live in a small village in Catalonia. After a terrible event that wipes out almost all life on Earth, they are the only two humans left. Alba and Dídac bravely try to survive in a world filled with danger. They also take on the important job of saving human culture and knowledge.
Even though the book was not originally written just for young people, its exciting story made it very popular with teenagers. Today, Mecanoscrit del segon origen is a required book to read in many high schools in Catalonia. The book shows how important it is to have hope and a strong will to live.
