Maple is a small place in Bailey County, Texas, United States. It is called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. In the year 2000, about 75 people lived in Maple.
Where is Maple?
Maple is located in the southern part of Bailey County, Texas. You can find it along a road called FM 596. It is about 35 miles (56 km) southwest of Muleshoe. Maple is also about 72 miles (116 km) northwest of Lubbock.
Maple's Story
Maple got its name from an early settler named Maple Wilson. The community started in the early 1920s. At that time, large ranches in the area were divided into smaller farms.
A post office opened in Maple in 1926. By 1940, the community had grown to about 600 people. There were also six businesses operating in Maple. However, during the second half of the 1900s, the number of people living in Maple slowly went down. In 1980, about 130 people lived there. This number fell to 75 by the year 2000. Maple still has a post office today, and its zip code is 79344.
Learning in Maple
Since July 1, 2002, students in Maple have attended schools in the Sudan Independent School District. This school district is based in Sudan, a city in Lamb County. Before that date, a different school district served Maple. It was called the Three Way Independent School District. This district was based in Maple and started in 1945. It was formed when the original Maple school district joined with others.
