María Cristina Ramos is a famous writer and teacher from Argentina, born in 1952. She is best known for writing amazing books for kids and young adults. In 2016, she won a big award called the SM Ibero-American Prize for Children's and Youth Literature. Later, in 2020, she was even chosen as a finalist for the Hans Christian Andersen Award, which is one of the most important awards for children's authors worldwide.

About María Cristina Ramos

María Cristina Ramos was born in San Rafael, a city in the Mendoza region of Argentina, in 1952. She has spent most of her life living in Neuquén, another part of Argentina.

Her First Books

In 1988, María Cristina Ramos published her very first book for children. It was a collection of poems called Un sol para tu sombrero, which means "A Sun for Your Hat." Since then, she has written more than 50 books! Her stories have become so popular that they have been translated into many different languages, including English, Chinese, Korean, and Portuguese.

Starting Her Own Company

María Cristina Ramos even started her own publishing company in 2002. It is called Editorial Ruedamares. This means she helps other writers get their books out to readers, too.

More Than Just a Writer

Besides writing children's books, María Cristina Ramos is also a teacher educator. This means she helps train other teachers. She also writes special books about pedagogy, which is the study of how to teach. She has also led many projects to encourage reading in different parts of Argentina.

María Cristina Ramos has received some very important awards for her writing. These awards show how much her work is loved and respected around the world.

SM Ibero-American Prize

In 2016, María Cristina Ramos won the SM Ibero-American Prize for Children's and Youth Literature. This is a major award that celebrates authors who write for young people in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries. It also came with a prize of €26,701, which is a lot of money!

Hans Christian Andersen Award

In 2020, she was named one of only six finalists for the International Board on Books for Young People's Hans Christian Andersen Award. This award is often called the "Little Nobel Prize" for children's literature. It is one of the highest honors an author of children's books can receive. María Cristina Ramos was the second author from Argentina to be nominated for this award. The first was María Teresa Andruetto, who won it in 2012.
