María Martha Serra Lima (born December 19, 1944 – died November 2, 2017) was a famous singer from Argentina. She was known for singing romantic songs, often called canción melódica or boleros.
Her Life and Music
María Martha was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her family owned car dealerships. She started her music career in 1977 when she signed with a record company. Soon, she became very famous across Latin America and in Spain during the 1970s and 1980s.
She had a deep, rich singing voice, known as a contralto. She was loved for her romantic songs and boleros, which are slow-tempo Latin ballads. She often worked with other well-known singers and songwriters from Latin America. Some of these included Los Panchos and Armando Manzanero from Mexico. She also sang a famous version of Paul Anka's song, My Way.
Her music became very popular in many countries. Her albums were big hits in places like Mexico, Puerto Rico, Chile, Colombia, and Venezuela, as well as in her home country of Argentina.
