María de Lourdes Rojo e Incháustegui, known as María Rojo, was born on August 15, 1943. She is a famous Mexican actress and also a politician. She has had a long career in both acting and public service.

María Rojo was a Senator of the Republic in the Mexican Congress. This is like being a lawmaker who helps create rules for the country. She started her acting career during a special time called the Golden Age of Mexican cinema.

She has starred in many popular Mexican movies. Some of these include Rojo amanecer, El callejón de los milagros, and El Infierno. She also appeared in many telenovelas, which are like TV soap operas. Some of her well-known telenovelas are Alborada and Mañana es para siempre.

Her Early Life and Acting Career

María Rojo was born in Mexico City on August 15, 1943. She started acting when she was only eight years old. Her first role was in a TV show called Teatro Fantástico.

She began acting in movies at age 13. Her first film was Besos Prohibidos in 1956. Since then, she has become one of Mexico's most important actresses. She has worked in over 70 movies and TV shows.

Her first main role in a movie was in 1975, in a film called El Apando [es]. Some of her most famous movie roles were in Rojo amanecer, Danzón, and El callejón de los milagros.

María Rojo has also been in many successful telenovelas. These include Cuando llega el amor (1990) and La antorcha encendida (1996). In La antorcha encendida, she played a historical figure named Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez. She also appeared in Alborada (2005–2006) and Mañana es para siempre (2008–2009). Later, she returned to telenovelas in Hasta el fin del mundo (2014). She has also acted in Mexican TV series like Mujeres Asesinas.

Her Political Career

Besides acting, María Rojo has also had an important career in politics. She became a federal deputy from 1997 to 2000. A federal deputy is a person elected to represent people in the Chamber of Deputies, which is part of the Mexican Congress.

On October 1, 2000, she became the Borough Chief of Coyoacán. This is a part of Mexico City. She was in charge of managing this area. She left this job in 2003 to run for another position.

On September 1, 2006, María Rojo became a Senator of the Republic. As a Senator, she worked in the upper house of the Mexican Congress. She served in this role until 2012. During this time, she was also the leader of the committee that focused on culture.
