Marc Davis's Racing Journey
Early Years in Racing
Marc Davis grew up in Colesville, Maryland. His father was an F-1 boat racer, which likely sparked Marc's interest in speed. Marc started racing BMX bikes at a young age. He achieved high rankings, including US-2 and Gold Cup #1.
At age 8, he moved into quarter midgets. These are small race cars for young drivers. After that, he raced Junior Dragsters. He then spent three years racing Bandoleros, which are small, entry-level stock cars.
Becoming a Champion
Marc then moved on to Legends cars. These are 5/8-scale replicas of old stock cars. At just 13 years old, in 2003, Marc won two national Legends car championships. He won in both the Dirt and Road Course Young Lion divisions. This made him the first champion to win both titles in the same season.
To pursue his racing dreams, Marc moved to Mooresville, North Carolina. This area is a hub for many racing teams. In 2006, he won six out of twelve limited late model races for Joe Gibbs Racing at Hickory Motor Speedway. His victory on March 25, 2006, was a special moment. It was the track's second win by an African American driver.
Stepping Up in NASCAR
In 2007, Marc had a strong season. He earned a second-place finish, five top-five finishes, and seven top-ten finishes in thirteen events. He ended the season ninth in overall points. He also competed in his first ARCA race, finishing fourth for veteran driver Bill Venturini.
In 2008, Marc was scheduled to race in the Camping World East series and four ARCA events. On February 6, 2008, he had the honor of ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange for Black History Month. Later that year, he made his big NASCAR debut. He drove the #81 Randy Moss Motorsports Chevrolet at Gateway International Raceway in the Craftsman Truck Series. He finished a respectable 16th place in that race.
Marc finished the 2008 Camping World East season with a top-ten finish. This happened at the Toyota All-Star Showdown in Irwindale.
Later Racing Seasons
In 2009, Marc raced in select events in both the Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series. He even had his own team for some of these races. In the Nationwide Series, he competed in four races, with his best finish being 25th at Nashville Superspeedway. In the Truck Series, he raced in two events, finishing 18th at Martinsville.
In 2010, Marc had to withdraw from a Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway due to a personal family matter. He was set to race for Xxxtreme Motorsport. He made one start that year at Dover, finishing 23rd.
Marc returned to NASCAR in 2011. He drove the #03 car for R3 Motorsports in one race.
Life Outside the Track
Marc Davis graduated from Mooresville Christian Academy in May 2008. After his racing career, Marc worked for Hendrick BMW in North Carolina.
