Marc Davis's Racing Journey
Marc Davis grew up in Colesville, Maryland. His dad was an F-1 boat racer, which might have sparked Marc's interest in speed!
Early Years in Racing
Marc started racing at a young age. He first competed in BMX biking, where he became a top-ranked rider. At age 8, he moved on to quarter midgets, which are small race cars. After that, he raced Junior Dragsters.
He then spent three years racing Bandoleros, which are small, fast cars designed for young drivers. Next, he moved up to Legends cars.
Winning Championships
When Marc was just 13 years old, he had an amazing year in Legends car racing. He won two national championships in 2003: one for dirt tracks and one for road courses. He was the first driver ever to win both championships in the same season!
To focus more on his racing career, Marc moved to Mooresville, North Carolina. This area is often called "Race City USA" because many NASCAR teams are based there.
Racing with Joe Gibbs Racing
In 2006, Marc raced for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) in limited late model races at Hickory Motor Speedway. He won six out of twelve races! One of his wins on March 25, 2006, was special because it was only the second time an African American driver had won at that track.
In 2007, Marc continued to do well. He finished second in one race and had five top-five finishes and seven top-ten finishes in thirteen events. He ended up ninth in the overall points standings. He also competed in his first ARCA race, finishing fourth.
In 2008, Marc was scheduled to race in the Camping World East Series and four ARCA events. He even got to ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange on February 6, 2008, to celebrate Black History Month.
Later in 2008, Marc made his big NASCAR debut in the Craftsman Truck Series at Gateway International Raceway. He finished 16th in that race. He also finished the 2008 Camping World East season with a top-ten finish at the Toyota All-Star Showdown.
Later NASCAR Races
In 2009, Marc raced in some events in both the Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series with his own team. In the Nationwide Series, he raced in four events, with his best finish being 25th at Nashville Superspeedway. In the Truck Series, he finished 18th at Martinsville.
In 2010, Marc had to withdraw from a race at Daytona because his father passed away. He made one start that year at Dover, finishing 23rd.
Marc returned to NASCAR in 2011, racing for R3 Motorsports.
Marc's Life Outside Racing
After his racing career, Marc Davis worked for Hendrick BMW in North Carolina.
