Marc Evan Jackson's Early Life and Education

Marc Evan Jackson was born on August 21, 1970, in Buffalo, New York. He grew up in a nearby town called Amherst, New York, with his brother and sister.

He finished high school at Amherst Central High School in 1988. Then, he went to Calvin College and earned a degree in philosophy in 1992. He also studied political science and environmental studies. While in college, he loved being in plays and theater shows.

During his summer breaks, Marc worked on boats. He was a deck hand on the MV Americana. After college, he spent a few years working on large sailing ships called schooners in Michigan and Maine. He also worked at a radio station in Michigan, hosting a morning show.

Marc Evan Jackson's Acting Career

Starting with Improv and Comedy

Marc Evan Jackson began his acting journey with an improv group called River City Improv. Improv is a type of acting where performers make up scenes and dialogue on the spot, without a script. He joined the group after going to a rehearsal to play the piano. Later, he became part of The Second City Detroit, a famous comedy theater, in 1998.

In 2001, Marc moved to Los Angeles. He taught improv at Second City Hollywood. In 2003, he joined an improv group called "The 313." This group was named after Detroit's area code because most of its members, like Keegan-Michael Key, were from Detroit. The 313 still performs at comedy festivals today.

Marc met Mark Gagliardi and Ben Acker at Second City Hollywood. They invited him to join their new show, Thrilling Adventure Hour. He became a main actor, playing a character named Sparks Nevada, Marshal on Mars. This show has been performed live since 2005 and became a popular podcast in 2011.

Marc also performs in a comedy duo with Carrie Clifford. They play characters named Sky and Nancy Collins, who are trying stand-up comedy for the first time. They have appeared on TV shows like Last Comic Standing.

In 2011, Marc starred in a web series called Fox Compton. He has worked many times with the director of that series, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, including in the movies The Kings of Summer and Kong: Skull Island. Marc has also made guest appearances in many other TV shows, such as Key & Peele, Modern Family, and Black-ish.

Famous TV Roles

Marc Evan Jackson has played important roles in several popular TV shows created by Michael Schur. He played Trevor Nelsson in 10 episodes of Parks and Recreation. Later, he was cast as Kevin Cozner in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Kevin Cozner is the serious, bow-tie-wearing husband of Captain Raymond Holt.

He also had a recurring role in The Good Place as Shawn. Shawn is a strict supervisor from the Bad Place. Marc hosted The Good Place: The Podcast and Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Podcast for NBC, where he interviewed the cast and crew.

Voice Acting Work

Marc Evan Jackson is also well-known for his voice acting. He has lent his voice to movies like President Wolfman and web series such as Funny or Die Presents: Brick Novax's Diary.

In 2013, he appeared in a live performance of the popular podcast Welcome to Night Vale, playing the character Marcus Vanston. He also voices Bradford Buzzard in the animated Disney series DuckTales.

Appearing in Commercials

You might have seen Marc Evan Jackson in many national commercials. He has appeared in ads for Farmers Insurance (with J. K. Simmons), Sears, Coors, Progressive, and AT&T.

Marc Evan Jackson's Personal Life

Marc Evan Jackson married his wife, Beth Hagenlocker, on April 27, 2002. She is a veterinarian. They live in Venice, Los Angeles, with their cats, Penny and Snug.

Marc is often seen wearing a bow tie, both when he is acting and in his everyday life. It has become a signature part of his look.

Helping Others Through Charity Work

Marc Evan Jackson is involved in charity work. He helped start the Detroit Creativity Project. This project teaches improv skills to students in Detroit public schools. The goal is to help them improve their communication skills. Marc and his wife, Beth, started this project with other actors and writers who had connections to Detroit. By 2015, the program was teaching 500 students in 19 different schools.

Marc and Beth also support 826LA, a non-profit organization that helps young people with their writing skills. Marc often takes part in events for this group.
