Marc Fleury is a talented person from both France and America. He is a computer scientist, physicist, musician, and business leader. He is known for being a pioneer in the Open Source movement. He also created JBoss, which is a special kind of software called a Java application server.

Marc Fleury's Early Life and Education
Marc Fleury was born in 1968 in Paris, France. His father was French, and his mother was Spanish. In the early 1990s, he came to the United States. He worked at the MIT as a visiting scientist.
His University Studies
He earned his Ph.D. (a very high university degree) in 1997. He got this degree from the École Polytechnique in Paris. Before that, he earned a Master's degree in Theoretical Physics in 1993. This was from the École Normale Supérieure. His first university degree was in Mathematics in 1992. He got it from the École Polytechnique in Palaiseau.
Military Service
Marc Fleury also served in the military. He was a paratrooper, which means he was trained to jump from airplanes. He held the rank of lieutenant in the 17th Parachute Engineer Regiment.
Marc Fleury: A Software Entrepreneur
Before moving to the United States, Marc Fleury worked in France. He worked for a company called Sun Microsystems. In the U.S., he started working on different Java projects. Java is a popular computer programming language.
Creating JBoss
Marc Fleury was very interested in "middleware." This is software that helps different computer programs talk to each other. In 1999, he started his own project called JBoss. In 2001, he officially started a company called JBoss Group, LLC in Atlanta, Georgia.
JBoss Becomes a Big Company
JBoss Group became a larger company, JBoss, Inc., in 2004. Marc Fleury was a leader in a new way of doing business called "Professional Open Source." This means making software free to use but offering paid help and services. Later, he sold his company to Red Hat. After the sale, he became a Senior Vice President at Red Hat. He led the JBoss Division there. In 2007, he left Red Hat.
Technology Investments and New Projects
In 2008, Marc Fleury started a new open source project. It was called OpenRemote. The goal of OpenRemote was to create systems for home automation. Home automation lets you control things in your house, like lights or thermostats, with technology.
Music and Art: The Church of Space
Marc Fleury also has a passion for music and art. He helped start a group called "The Church of Space" (The CoS). This group also goes by the name "Poèmes Électroniques." They combine theater with electronic music.
Performances and Recognition
The CoS performed at the Moogfest Music and Arts festival for three years. They were there in 2016, 2017, and 2019. Their music was even featured on NPR public radio in 2015. Since 2018, Marc Fleury has led Poèmes Électroniques with Professor Stuart Gerber. Professor Gerber teaches music at Georgia State University.
