Marc Jason Kroon (born April 2, 1973) is an American former professional baseball player. He was a right-handed relief pitcher. This means he came into games to pitch for a short time, usually at the end. He was known for being a closer for the Yomiuri Giants in Japan.

Marc Kroon's Baseball Journey

Starting in the Minor Leagues

Marc Kroon began his baseball career when he was chosen in the 1991 draft. The New York Mets picked him as the 72nd player overall. Later, in 1993, he was traded to the San Diego Padres.

Playing for the San Diego Padres

Marc Kroon made his first appearance in Major League Baseball (MLB) on July 7, 1995. He played for the San Diego Padres. He also played for them in 1997 and 1998.

Time with the Cincinnati Reds

In April 1998, the Padres traded Kroon to the Cincinnati Reds. He played for the Reds for a short time.

After playing for the Reds, Marc Kroon took a break from baseball. He did not play in 2001 or 2002. He decided to return to the game in 2003. He joined the Anaheim Angels organization.

Playing in Japan: Yokohama BayStars

In 2005, Marc Kroon moved to Japan to play baseball. He joined the Yokohama BayStars team. He played with them until the end of the 2007 season. After that, he became a free agent, meaning he could sign with any team.

Success with the Yomiuri Giants

Marc Kroon then signed with the Yomiuri Giants, another big team in Japan. He joined them in 2008. That year, he was amazing! He led the Central League in saves with 41. A save is when a pitcher finishes a close game and helps their team win. He also set a personal record for pitching speed, throwing the ball at 162 kilometers per hour (101 miles per hour).

He continued to play for the Yomiuri Giants until 2010. In 2009, his team, the Yomiuri Giants, won the Japan Series championship.

Final Years in Baseball

In 2011, Kroon signed a contract with the San Francisco Giants. He was invited to their spring training. After spring training, he was sent to play for their minor league team, the Fresno Grizzlies.

Marc Kroon officially retired from playing baseball on March 8, 2012.

Marc Kroon has a son named Matt. Matt also plays baseball! He is an infielder for a team in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
