Marcelo Buquet was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. When he was 18 years old, he joined a theater group called El Galpón del Uruguay. Here, he was involved in 25 different stage shows. He worked as an actor, a producer, a songwriter, and even a singer.

When he was 26, Marcelo moved to Mexico. There, he started acting in telenovelas. His first big TV role was in Simplemente María in 1989. He also acted in a play called Bear Jest, which earned him a nomination for Best Comedy Actor of the Year.

In 1992, he got another TV role in El abuelo y yo. In this show, he acted alongside Gael García Bernal, who is now a very famous actor. The next year, he appeared in a movie from Uruguay called El dirigible.

Marcelo also produced and starred in his own plays. In 1994, he worked on Triángulo and Che... Che... Chejov. The play Che... Che... Chejov won an award for Best Self-Taught Production of the Year. In 1998, he played Rodrigo Bracho in the popular telenovela La usurpadora. He also appeared in a short follow-up called Más allá de la usurpadora. One of his more recent TV works was the Colombian telenovela Doña Bella in 2010.
