Marcelo Hugo Tinelli (born April 1, 1960) is a very famous TV host, producer, and businessman from Argentina. He is best known for hosting the popular TV show Showmatch on El Trece.

Marcelo is also a big fan of the sports club San Lorenzo de Almagro. In 2019, he became the president of the club. He won the election with more than 80% of the votes! Since March 2020, he has also been the president of the Liga Profesional de Fútbol. This group organizes the top football championships in Argentina, called Primera División.

Marcelo Tinelli's Career Journey

Starting Out in TV

Marcelo Tinelli began his career working on Radio Rivadavia. He was a sportscaster, talking about football. In 1983, Juan Alberto Badía helped him get into television. Marcelo started on a show called Badía y Compañía.

In 1990, after several years as a sports commentator, he created his own show. It was called Videomatch. This show was light and fun, featuring sports results, jokes, hidden camera pranks, and funny mistakes called bloopers.

Later, he hosted a variety and music show called Ritmo de la Noche. Many international music stars performed live on this show. Some famous bands included Bon Jovi, Poison, Duran Duran, and Queen member Brian May. In 1999, Marcelo won the Golden Martín Fierro Award for Videomatch. This is a very important award in Argentine television. The show is still on air today, but it's now called Showmatch.

Building a Media Empire

Marcelo Tinelli also started his own TV production company. It's called Ideas del Sur, which means "Ideas from the South". This company has made many popular TV shows. Some of them include Okupas, Buenos Vecinos, Tumberos, Fugitivos, and Los Roldán.

He also bought a radio station called Radio Uno FM. And he even bought a Spanish football club, CD Badajoz, which plays in the Segunda División.

In 2002, Marcelo helped create a volleyball team. It's called Club Ciudad de Bolívar and is based in his hometown. This team became one of the most successful in the Argentine league.

Videomatch and ShowMatch

Marcelo became very popular as the host of Videomatch. This show was on the Argentine network Telefe. It had funny sketches, musical guests, and contests. It also introduced bloopers to the Argentine audience, which were very popular.

In 2005, Marcelo made a big change. He announced he would move his show to Canal 9. This network was the third most-watched at the time. His show helped Canal 9 get much higher ratings. It became the highest-rated show in the country.

In 2006, Tinelli moved his show again, this time to El Trece. This is Telefe's biggest competitor. Marcelo has been working at El Trece ever since. He also produces TV shows with his company, Ideas del Sur. The show's name changed from Videomatch to Showmatch. This was because Telefe owned the name Videomatch. Showmatch was also the name of a short version of Videomatch that aired in Spain.

ShowMatch often included segments with different contests. People would perform acts like dancing or singing. In 2009, a segment called Gran Cuñado was very popular. It featured funny parodies of Argentine politicians. This segment caused a lot of discussion in the real political world.

Marcelo Tinelli has five children. He had two daughters, Micaela and Lelé, with his first wife, Soledad Aquino. Later, he married Paula Robles and they had two more children, Francisco and Juana. In 2014, he had his fifth child with Guillermina Valdes.
