Marcus Cornelius Crandell (born January 6, 1974) is an American former professional Canadian football player. He was a talented quarterback and later became a coach. Marcus played for 11 seasons in the CFL. He was part of teams like the Edmonton Eskimos, Calgary Stampeders, and Saskatchewan Roughriders.
His career spanned from 1997 to 2008. He also played in other leagues like NFL Europe and the XFL. Marcus Crandell was named the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player in 2001. This was after his team, the Calgary Stampeders, won the 89th Grey Cup. He also won another Grey Cup championship in 2007 with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was a backup quarterback for that team.

Early Life and College Football
Marcus Crandell grew up in Robersonville, North Carolina. He played high school football at Roanoke High School. After high school, he went on to play college football at East Carolina University.
During his time at East Carolina, Marcus set many records. He broke over 30 passing and offensive records for the Pirates. In 1996, he was even considered for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. This award goes to the best senior quarterback in college football.
College Achievements
Marcus led the East Carolina Pirates to two important post-season games. One of these was a big win in the 1995 Liberty Bowl. His team beat Stanford with a score of 19-13.

CFL and Other Leagues
Marcus started his CFL journey with the Edmonton Eskimos. He signed with them on May 6, 1997. He played in 35 games for the Eskimos before becoming a free agent in 2000.
In 2000, he also played for the Memphis Maniax in the XFL. He also spent time with the Scottish Claymores in NFL Europe. After trying out for NFL teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, he joined the Calgary Stampeders. He signed with them on May 31, 2001.
Grey Cup Success
Marcus won a Grey Cup with the Calgary Stampeders in 2001. He played four seasons with Calgary. Later, he signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in March 2005. He played four seasons with them, mostly as a backup quarterback. He won another Grey Cup championship with the Roughriders in 2007.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Marcus Crandell moved into coaching. He started as an offensive assistant for the Saskatchewan Roughriders on July 7, 2009.
Coaching Roles
In 2011, he became the offensive coordinator for the Edmonton Eskimos. An offensive coordinator is in charge of the team's offensive plays. In 2012, he became the quarterbacks coach for the Eskimos.
For the 2014 season, Crandell joined the new Ottawa Redblacks team. He worked as their quarterbacks coach. Later, in 2017, he became the offensive coordinator for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.
