Marcus Latimer Hurley (born December 22, 1883 – died March 28, 1941) was an amazing American cyclist. He was known for his speed in sprint cycling races. Marcus Hurley won four gold medals and one bronze medal at the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis.

Life and Achievements

Marcus Hurley was born on December 22, 1883. He was a talented athlete in more than one sport. He also played basketball for Columbia University.

College Basketball Star

In 1908, Marcus Hurley was the captain of Columbia University's basketball team. This team won the first-ever national collegiate basketball championship. This was a huge achievement for him and his team.

Olympic Cycling Success

At the 1904 Summer Olympics, Marcus Hurley showed incredible skill in cycling. He won gold medals in the ¼ mile, ⅓ mile, ½ mile, and 1 mile races. He also earned a bronze medal in the 2-mile race. These wins made him a famous Olympic champion.

Military Service

Marcus Hurley also served his country during World War I. He was honored for his service during the war. He passed away on March 28, 1941.
