Marcus Christian Jensen (born December 14, 1972) is an American professional baseball coach and former player. He played as a catcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1996 to 2002. During his playing career, he was part of teams like the San Francisco Giants and Milwaukee Brewers. After he stopped playing, Jensen became a coach and manager in the minor leagues. Since 2015, he has been a coach for the Oakland Athletics in MLB.

Playing Career Highlights

Marcus Jensen went to Skyline High School in Oakland, California. The San Francisco Giants chose him in the first round of the 1990 MLB Draft. This meant they picked him early to join their team. He started playing in Major League Baseball in 1996.

Teams Marcus Jensen Played For

Even though he was seen as a future star catcher for the Giants, he faced challenges. In 1997, he was traded to the Detroit Tigers. He then played for several other MLB teams. These included the Milwaukee Brewers in 1998 and 2002, the St. Louis Cardinals in 1999, and the Minnesota Twins in 2000. In 2001, he played for both the Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers.

International Baseball Experience

Jensen also played for the United States national baseball team. He competed in the 1999 Pan American Games. He also represented his country in the 2000 Summer Olympics. The U.S. team won a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. After his time in MLB, he played for the New York Yankees organization in 2003. He also played in an independent league called the Golden Baseball League from 2005 to 2006.

Coaching Career Highlights

In January 2007, Marcus Jensen stopped playing baseball. He then started a new career as a coach. He became a hitting coach for the Oakland Athletics organization. A hitting coach helps players improve how they bat.

Managing and Coaching Roles

From 2009 to 2013, Jensen was the manager for the Arizona League Athletics. This team is part of the Rookie-level Arizona League, which is for new players. After the 2013 season, he became a "roving hitting instructor" for the Athletics' minor league teams. This meant he traveled to different teams to help players with their hitting. After the 2014 season, he joined the main Oakland Athletics team as an assistant hitting coach. In November 2022, Jensen was named the quality control coach for the Athletics for the 2023 season and beyond.

Personal Life

Marcus Jensen has a son named Marcus Proctor. His son was also chosen by a professional baseball team. The Tampa Bay Rays picked Marcus Proctor in the 2009 MLB Draft.
