Marcus Elliot Williams, born on November 18, 1986, is a former professional basketball player from America. He was a versatile player, meaning he could play different positions on the court. These positions included small forward, shooting guard, and even point guard.
College Basketball Journey
Williams went to Roosevelt High School in Seattle. After high school, he played college basketball for the University of Arizona. He was part of their team from 2005 to 2007.
Freshman Year Success (2005-2006)
During the 2005–06 season, Marcus played in all 33 games for Arizona. He started in 25 of those games. He was the team's second-highest scorer, averaging 13.0 points per game. Marcus also led his team in three-point shooting accuracy. On top of that, he averaged 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. His great performance earned him a spot on the Pac-10 all-freshman team.
Sophomore Year and NBA Draft (2006-2007)
After his first year, Marcus thought about joining the 2006 NBA draft. However, he decided to return for his second year instead. In his sophomore year, he was named to the All-Pac-10 first team. This showed he was one of the best players in his college conference. On April 5, 2007, he decided to enter the NBA draft. This meant he would not play his final two years of college basketball.
Professional Basketball Career
Marcus Williams began his professional career in 2007. He was picked by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2007 NBA draft. He was the 33rd player chosen overall.
Early NBA and D-League Years (2007-2009)
In July 2007, Marcus joined the Spurs for the NBA Summer League. He signed with the Spurs on September 28, 2007. However, he was later released by the team on October 27, 2007. In November 2007, he joined the Austin Toros in the NBA D-League. This league is now called the NBA G League.
On December 26, 2007, he signed with the Spurs again and played his first NBA game that same day. But just three days later, the Spurs released him again. On January 3, 2008, he went back to play for the Toros.
Later, on March 28, 2008, Marcus signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. He played for them for the rest of the 2007–08 NBA season. In July 2008, he played for the Clippers in the 2008 NBA Summer League.
On September 27, 2008, he signed with the Charlotte Bobcats. But he was released by them on October 14, 2008. In November 2008, he returned to the Austin Toros.
On April 8, 2009, he signed with the San Antonio Spurs for the rest of the 2008–09 NBA season. He was sent back to the Austin Toros on April 15, 2009. Five days later, the Spurs called him back up. On October 25, 2009, the Spurs released him again.
Playing in China and Return to D-League (2009-2011)
In November 2009, Marcus joined the Zhejiang Wanma Cyclones in China. He played for them during the 2009–10 CBA season. The CBA is the Chinese Basketball Association. After the Chinese season ended, he returned to the Austin Toros on March 22, 2010.
In July 2010, he played for the Indiana Pacers in the 2010 NBA Summer League. In December 2010, he went back to play for the Zhejiang Wanma Cyclones in China.
More Time in China (2011-2015)
On September 14, 2011, Marcus signed with Shanxi Zhongyu for the 2011–12 CBA season. In May 2012, he signed with Shanxi Zhongyu again for the 2012–13 season. In November 2013, he rejoined Shanxi Zhongyu for the 2013–14 season.
On September 30, 2014, he signed with the Denver Nuggets. However, he was released by the Nuggets on October 22, 2014. In August 2015, he joined the Zhengzhou Dayun team for the 2015 NBL season in China.
In August 2015, he signed with the Jilin Northeast Tigers for the 2015–16 CBA season. In December 2015, he left the Jilin team.
