Marcy Zenobi-Wong is an American engineer and a professor. She teaches about Tissue Engineering and Biofabrication at a university in Switzerland called ETH Zurich. She is famous for her important work in Tissue Engineering.

Her Path to Science

Marcy Zenobi-Wong studied mechanical engineering. She earned her first degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Later, she got a graduate degree from Stanford University. In 1990, she finished her PhD. Her research was about how forces affect bone growth.

After her PhD, she worked for one year. This was at the Orthopaedic Research Laboratories at the University of Michigan. In 1992, she moved to the University of Bern. There, she led a group studying cartilage. She became a professor there in 2000. In 2003, she joined ETH Zurich. She first worked in Biomedical Engineering. Later, she moved to the Department of Health Sciences and Technology. She became an associate professor there in 2017.

What She Researches

Professor Zenobi-Wong works on Tissue Engineering. This field helps to repair or replace damaged body tissues. She focuses on growing new cartilage. Cartilage is the soft tissue found in joints.

She creates special materials called biomaterials. These materials act like the body's own natural support structure. This structure is called the extracellular matrix. She uses different methods to make these materials. Some methods include electrospinning, casting, and two-photon polymerization. She also uses bioprinting. This is like 3D printing, but it uses living cells.

Her Contributions

Marcy Zenobi-Wong holds four patents. These are special rights for her inventions. Her inventions are in tissue engineering and related techniques. She also helped start a master's degree program. This program is for Biomedical Engineering at ETH Zurich. She also created several courses for university students. These courses teach about tissue engineering.

She is the current President of the Swiss Society for Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine. She also serves as the secretary general for the International Society of Biofabrication.
