Margaret Field (born Margaret Morlan; May 10, 1922 – November 6, 2011) was an American actress. She was also known as Maggie Mahoney after marrying actor Jock Mahoney. Margaret Field was the mother of famous actress Sally Field. She was well-known for her roles in science-fiction movies like The Man from Planet X (1951) and Captive Women (1952). She also appeared in many different television shows.

Margaret Field's Early Life
Margaret Field was born in Houston, Texas. Her parents were Joy Beatrice and Wallace Miller Morlan. In the late 1930s, her family moved to Pasadena, California.
Her Acting Career
Margaret Field was discovered at the Pasadena Playhouse by a talent scout from Paramount Pictures. After a successful screen test, she was offered a contract to act in movies. She also studied voice and acting at Pasadena Junior College.
Early in her career, she appeared in short films for Paramount. She also had small roles in many full-length movies between 1946 and 1953.
Television Roles
Margaret Field appeared in many television series. She played different characters, sometimes more than once. For example, she was a defendant in two episodes of the CBS drama series Perry Mason. In 1959, she played Eva Martell in an episode called "The Case of the Borrowed Brunette". In 1960, she was Linda Osborne in "The Case of the Nine Dolls".
She also appeared in other popular TV shows. These included The Lone Ranger, Wagon Train, Bonanza, and Twilight Zone. In 1956, she acted alongside her husband, Jock Mahoney, in an episode of Death Valley Days.

Her Family Life
In 1942, Margaret Field married Richard Dryden Field, who was an Army officer. They had two children together: Sally Field, who became a famous actress, and Richard D. Field, who became a physicist.
Later, in 1952, Margaret married actor Jock Mahoney. After this marriage, she was often credited in her acting work as "Maggie Mahoney". They had a daughter named Princess, who grew up to become a director of television shows like ER. Margaret and Jock divorced in 1968. Around that time, when her older daughter Sally was 22, Margaret mostly stopped acting. She decided to focus more on her family.
Later Years and Death
Margaret Field passed away from cancer at her home in Malibu, California. She was 89 years old. Her death on November 6, 2011, was also her daughter Sally Field's 65th birthday.
