Margareth Øvrum (born 19 September 1958) is a talented engineer and a top leader in business from Norway. For many years, she worked for Statoil, which is now known as Equinor. She held a very important role as an executive vice-president from 2004 to 2020.

Early Life and Education

Margareth Øvrum was born in a town called Skien in the southern part of Norway. She loved learning about science and how things work. In 1981, she finished her engineering degree at the Norwegian Institute of Technology in Trondheim. She focused on a special area called Engineering Physics, which combines physics with engineering.

Career in Energy

After finishing her studies, Margareth started working at Statoil in 1982. This company is one of the biggest energy companies in the world. She quickly showed how skilled she was. She became the company's first female platform manager, which means she was in charge of an oil platform at the Gullfaks Field. This was a big step for women in the energy industry!

Later, she took on even more important jobs. She became a senior leader for operations at the Velsefrikk oil field. She also helped manage operations for the entire Norwegian continental shelf, which is a huge area where Norway finds oil and gas. Before she retired from her executive role in 2020, she was the Executive Vice President of Technology, Projects & Drilling. This means she led all the new technologies, big projects, and drilling operations for the company.

Awards and Recognition

Margareth Øvrum has received many important awards for her work. In 2013, she was named "Oilman of the Year" by the Society of Petroleum Engineers. This is a very special award given to people who have done amazing things in the oil and gas industry.

In the same year, Norway celebrated 100 years since all adults gained the right to vote (called universal suffrage). To mark this, Margareth Øvrum was chosen as the Most Influential Woman in Technology. This shows how much she has inspired others and made a difference in the world of technology.

Margareth Øvrum has lived in the city of Bergen since 1987. After working offshore on oil platforms for three years, she returned to live in Norway full-time in 2020.
