Margarita Michelena (born July 21, 1917, in Pachuca, Hidalgo; died March 27, 1998, in Mexico City) was a talented Mexican writer. She was a poet, a literary critic, a translator, and a journalist. She wrote many beautiful poems and shared her ideas through newspapers and radio.

About Margarita Michelena

Margarita's parents were from Spain. They lived in France before moving to Mexico. Margarita studied at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). This is a big university in Mexico City. She studied philosophy and literature there.

She started her writing career at a magazine called América. Later, she worked as an editor for El Libro y el Pueblo. This magazine was part of the Secretariat of Public Education. She worked there until 1962. After that, she became a political writer for newspapers. She wrote for Novedades and Excélsior. At the same time, she had a radio show. Her show talked about words and their meanings.

In 1967, Margarita became the head of the press office. This office was part of the Secretariat of Tourism. She helped share information about tourism.

In 1980, she started a new newspaper called Cotidiano. This newspaper was special. It was made by women and for women. It shared news from a woman's point of view. Margarita was the director of this newspaper.
