Margriet Heymans (born October 29, 1932 – died July 27, 2023) was a talented Dutch writer and illustrator. She created many wonderful books for children. Margriet often worked with her sister, Annemie Heymans. Together, they made books like Het poppenfeest (1971) and De prinses van de moestuin (1991).

Early Life and Education
Margriet Heymans was born in a city called 's-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands. This was on October 29, 1932. After finishing high school, she studied art for two years. She attended the School voor Kunst en Kunstnijverheid in her hometown. Later, she moved to Amsterdam to continue her art studies. She went to the famous Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten.
Her Creative Career
Margriet Heymans started her career in 1958. Her first work appeared in a children's magazine called Kris Kras.
Illustrating Books for Others
Margriet was a gifted illustrator. She drew pictures for many books by other Dutch writers. One famous book she illustrated was Annetje Lie in het holst van de nacht. This book was written by Imme Dros. Margriet also illustrated Ik was de zee by Ienne Biemans.
She won a special award called the Gouden Penseel for her drawings in Annetje Lie in het holst van de nacht. Margriet said in 2013 that this was the most beautiful story she ever illustrated for someone else. The writer, Imme Dros, also won awards for this book. She received a Zilveren Griffel and the very first Woutertje Pieterse Prijs.
Teaching and Exhibitions
From 1972 to 1993, Margriet Heymans taught illustration. She worked at the Koninklijke Academie voor Kunst en Vormgeving. Her art, often created with her sister Annemie, was shown in exhibitions. They had shows in Paris in 1981 and in Voorhout in 1984.
In 2018, Margriet gave her original drawings to the Dutch Museum of Literature. This museum is in The Hague. In 2020, some of her illustrations were part of an online exhibition. These were drawings she made for books by Annie M. G. Schmidt. The exhibition celebrated 25 years since Schmidt's death.
Personal Life
Margriet Heymans was married twice during her life. She had five children. She passed away on July 27, 2023, when she was 90 years old.
