Imme Dros facts for kids
Imme Dros is a well-known Dutch writer who creates amazing children's literature. She was born on September 26, 1936, in a place called Oudeschild on the island of Texel.
About Imme Dros
Imme Dros spent her childhood on the beautiful island of Texel. Later, she moved to Amsterdam to study the Dutch language. In Amsterdam, she met her husband, Harrie Geelen. They had three children together.
Imme Dros started writing her first book in 1971. Her husband, Harrie Geelen, is also an artist and has drawn pictures for many of her books. Today, she lives in Hilversum.
Her Books and Stories
In the 1970s, Imme Dros mostly wrote books about animals. In the 1980s, she started writing more for young teenagers. She also began creating stories for even younger children.
Since the 1990s, Imme Dros has been famous for retelling classic stories. She often takes old tales from Homer and other Greek mythology stories and makes them new and exciting. For example, her book Odysseus: een man van verhalen tells the story of Odysseus. It describes his long journey home after the Trojan War. Her writing style in these books is often very poetic.
Many of Imme Dros's books have won important awards from Dutch literary critics. She has won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs twice. This award is given to the best children's book of the year in the Netherlands.
Awards and Recognition
Imme Dros has received several special awards for her wonderful books:
- Nienke van Hichtum-prijs (1983) for her book En een tijd van vrede.
- Woutertje Pieterse Prijs (1988) for Annetje Lie in het holst van de nacht. This book had illustrations by Margriet Heymans.
- Theo Thijssen-prijs (2003). This is a very important award for Dutch children's literature.
- Woutertje Pieterse Prijs (2006) for Bijna jarig. She won this award together with Harrie Geelen.
Imme Dros also wrote the book Een heel lief konijn. The illustrator for this book, Jaap Lamberton, won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs in 1993 for his drawings.
