María Arrillaga, born in 1940, is a talented Puerto Rican poet. She also worked as a professor at the University of Puerto Rico. She taught Spanish at the university's Río Piedras campus. María Arrillaga has written many books of poetry.

María Arrillaga: Her Education Journey
María Arrillaga studied at several universities. She earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Science in English, in 1961. She received this from St. Louis University. Later, in 1966, she got her Master of Arts degree in Spanish. This was from New York University in New York City.
Advanced Studies and Research
María Arrillaga continued her education. She earned her PhD from the University of Puerto Rico in 1987. Her special area of study was Puerto Rican literature and Latin American literature. She also focused on Women's Studies, which looks at the lives and experiences of women.
Teaching Career and Experience
María Arrillaga had a long and interesting teaching career. From 1970 to 1971, she taught about art and music. This was at the New York City Technical College in Brooklyn, New York.
Professor at the University of Puerto Rico
Most of her career was spent at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. She was a Spanish Professor there from 1973 to 2001. She helped many students learn about the Spanish language and culture.
Visiting Professor Roles
In 1993 and 1994, she was a visiting professor at York College in Queens. There, she taught classes on women's literature. She also taught creative writing, helping students develop their own stories and poems. After 2001, between 2002 and 2005, she continued teaching. She was an adjunct professor of Spanish at the New York City Technical College in Brooklyn.
