María Arrillaga, born in 1940, is a talented poet from Puerto Rico. She has also been a professor at the University of Puerto Rico. She taught in the Spanish Department at the Rio Piedras campus. María has written many books of poetry.

María Arrillaga's Journey in Education

María Arrillaga studied at several universities. She earned her first degree in English in 1961 from St. Louis University. Later, she received a master's degree in Spanish from New York University in 1966.

In 1987, she earned her PhD from the University of Puerto Rico. Her studies focused on Latin American and Puerto Rican literature. She also studied Women's Studies, which looks at women's roles and experiences in society.

Teaching Career

María Arrillaga taught at different colleges for many years. From 1970 to 1971, she taught art and music in New York City.

Then, from 1973 to 2001, she was a Spanish Professor. She taught at the College of General Studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus.

She was also a visiting professor at York College, City University of New York in 1993–94. There, she taught classes on women's literature and creative writing. After 2002, she continued teaching Spanish as an adjunct professor in New York.
