The School's Beginning: A Look at MCNHS History

How Maria Cristina National High School Started

Maria Cristina National High School was first known as Maria Cristina Barangay High School. It opened thanks to a law called Republic Act 6050. This law helped communities, known as barangays, create their own high schools. The local community leaders and residents in Maria Cristina asked for the school to be built.

Early Days and Growth of MCNHS

The school officially opened in June 1972. It started with 183 students and five teachers. Classes were held in the barangay hall and at the elementary school. As more students joined, the school needed more space. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) even built a temporary classroom from nipa to help out.

Expanding the School: More Students, More Teachers

The number of students kept growing. Because of this, more teachers were hired. The school quickly grew from just a few classes to 17 sections with 26 teachers. Most of these teachers were supported by the national government.

Modern Facilities and a New Location

Today, Maria Cristina National High School has many computers and other modern facilities. The school also has a large piece of land, about three hectares, that belongs to the National Power Corporation. This land was set aside as the new school site.

A special agreement was made to allow the school to use this land. This new site has helped the school grow even more. All students now use the new location, which has more space for buildings and equipment.
