Maria Verger Ventayol (born in 1892, died in 1983) was a talented Spanish woman. She worked as an archivist, a librarian, and a poet. She wrote poems in both the Catalan and Spanish languages.

Maria Verger's Life Story

Maria Verger was born in Alcúdia in 1892. She studied to become a librarian and archivist at the Barcelona School of Librarians.

From 1921 to 1934, she wrote letters to another writer, Maria Antònia Salvà [es]. Maria Antònia Salvà helped Maria Verger start her poetry career. She even wrote the introduction for Maria Verger's first book. Maria Verger's Catalan poems followed a style popular in Mallorca.

In 1923, Maria Verger became the curator of the Museo Joan Soler y Palet in Terrassa. A curator is someone who manages a museum's collections. She lived in Terrassa until 1943. While there, she also managed the city's library and official records (archive).

She helped create new libraries. These included a library for the School of Home Economics and one for the local prison. Maria Verger also worked hard to find and protect old documents from Terrassa. She wrote about this in the Majorcan newspaper El Día.

During this time, she wrote an important book called Inventory of the Municipal Archive of Terrassa (Catalan: Inventari de l'Arxiu Municipal de Terrassa). For this work, she won an award from the Institut d'Estudis Catalans in 1935. In 1942, a part of her inventory was published. It was called Historical Review of the Archives and Libraries of the Terrassa City Council.

Maria Verger also wrote letters to Francesc de B. Moll. She helped him with his big dictionary, the Diccionari català valencià balear [ca].

She lived in South America for some years. After returning to Spain, she settled in Madrid. There, she focused on writing poetry in Spanish. Maria Verger passed away in Madrid in 1983.
