Maria de Medeiros (born August 19, 1965) is a talented Portuguese actress, director, and singer. She has worked on many movies and music projects in both Europe and America.

Early Life of Maria de Medeiros
Maria de Medeiros was born in Lisbon, Portugal. Her father, António Victorino de Almeida, is a famous musician and composer. Maria started acting in movies when she was just 15 years old.
When she was 18, Maria moved to France. There, she studied acting at a top school called the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique (CNSAD). She finished her studies in 1988.
Maria de Medeiros is also special because she is the first Portuguese woman to be named a UNESCO Artist for Peace. This means she helps promote peace and understanding through her art.

Maria de Medeiros has had a busy career in both film and music.
Film Career
Maria de Medeiros looks a lot like the writer Anaïs Nin. This helped her get the main role in the movie Henry & June (1990). In this film, she played the author herself.
In 1990, she also played the role of Maria in the film 1871. This movie was directed by Ken McMullen. It was about the rise of the Paris Commune.
A few years later, in 1994, Maria de Medeiros appeared in Quentin Tarantino's famous movie Pulp Fiction. She played Fabienne, who was the girlfriend of a character named Butch Coolidge. Butch was played by Bruce Willis.
In 2000, Maria de Medeiros directed a film called April Captains. She also acted in it. This movie was about the 1974 Carnation Revolution in Portugal. It was shown at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival.
Later, in 2003, Maria de Medeiros had a role in the movie My Life Without Me. She played a hairdresser in this film. The movie starred Sarah Polley. She also appeared in the Canadian movie The Saddest Music in the World (2004). This film was directed by Guy Maddin. It also starred Isabella Rossellini and Mark McKinney.
Music Career
In 2007, Maria de Medeiros released her first music album. It was called A Little More Blue. On this album, she sang songs by Brazilian musicians. These included artists like Chico Buarque and Caetano Veloso. She sang in Portuguese, French, and English.
In 2009, she sang the song "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" for The Legendary Tigerman's album Femina. Her second album, Penínsulas & Continentes, came out in 2010. Her third album, Pájaros Eternos, was released in 2012.
For her fourth album, Maria de Medeiros worked with Phoebe Killdeer & The Shift. This album was called The Piano's Playing The Devils Tune. It was released in 2016.
