Mariam Chabi Talata Zimé Yérima was born on July 7, 1963. She is a politician from Benin, a country in West Africa. Since 2021, she has served as the Vice President of Benin. Before becoming Vice President, she was a member of the country's parliament, called the National Assembly. She also worked as a local council member in the city of Parakou.

Early Life and Schooling
Mariam Chabi Talata Zimé was born in a town called Bembèrèkè in Benin. This was on July 7, 1963. She went to several schools as she grew up. These included Centre D School in Parakou and Camp Guézo School in Cotonou. She finished her high school education in 1985. Later, in 1988, she earned a degree in philosophy. She studied at the National University of Benin.
Her Career Journey
Working as a Teacher
Mariam Talata trained to become a teacher. She studied at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Porto-Novo. She finished her teacher training in 1991. By 1992, she became a certified teacher. She taught at schools in Natitingou and Parakou.
From 2013 to 2016, she worked as an inspector for schools. She oversaw education in the Borgou and Alibori regions. In 2016, she was given an important role. She became the Director of General Secondary Education. This meant she helped manage high schools across the country.
Entering Politics
Mariam Talata decided to enter politics. In the 2019 election, she won a seat. This made her a member of the National Assembly. She also served as a local council member in Parakou.
In 2021, Patrice Talon chose her to be his running mate. He was running for president in the 2021 presidential election. They needed a vice-presidential candidate. Talon picked her name from a list of possible candidates. He was from the northern part of Benin. Mariam Talata was from the south. Their team won the election. She became the first person to be elected as the Vice President of Benin.
