Mariam Ndagire (born 16 May 1971) is a talented Ugandan artist. She is known for many things: singing, acting, writing plays, directing films, and producing movies. She has made a big impact on the arts in Uganda.

Early Life and School

Mariam Ndagire was born in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. Her parents were Sarah Nabbutto and Prince Kizito Ssegamwenge from Buganda.

She went to Buganda Road Primary School. Then she moved to Kampala High School, where she finished her O-level studies. These are like early high school exams. For her A-Level studies, which are like advanced high school exams, she attended Trinity College Nabbingo in Wakiso District.

After high school, she studied at Makerere University Business School. There, she earned a Higher Diploma in Marketing. Later, she got a Diploma in Music, Dance, and Drama from Makerere University. This is Uganda's oldest and largest public university.

Her Performing Journey

Mariam Ndagire started acting in plays when she was just 15 years old. She was still a student at Kampala High School back then.

In 1987, she joined a theatre group called the Black Pearls. She acted in many plays with them until 1993. While with the Black Pearls, she helped write her very first play, called "Engabo Y'addako". Later, Mariam Ndagire, along with Kato Lubwama and Ahraf Simwogerere, started their own group called the Diamonds' Ensemble. They wrote many plays together.

Mariam Ndagire really loves helping young people get into performing arts. Because of this, she created The Next Ugandan Music. This show is similar to the famous American Idol, helping new singers find their voice.

She also started a special training center for filmmakers. It's called the Mariam Ndagire Film and Performing Arts Centre (MNFPAC). This center holds workshops every year for people who want to make films. Some famous people who have attended these workshops include Sarah Kisauzi Sentongo, an actress from the TV series Deception, and screenwriter Usama Mukwaya.

In 2015, Mariam Ndagire was chosen to be part of the judging panel for the AFRICA MAGIC VIEWERS' CHOICE AWARDS (AMVCA). In 2019, she was also appointed to the Grand Jury of the GOLDEN MOVIE AWARDS AFRICA. These roles show how respected she is in the film world.
