Mariam Ndagire is a talented Ugandan artist born on May 16, 1971. She is a singer, actress, writer for plays and movies, and also directs and produces films.

Early Life and School Days

Mariam Ndagire was born in Kampala, which is the capital city of Uganda. Her parents were Sarah Nabbutto and Prince Kizito Ssegamwenge of Buganda.

She went to Buganda Road Primary School first. Then, she moved to Kampala High School for her O-level studies. After that, she attended Trinity College Nabbingo in Wakiso District for her A-Level studies. She earned her High School Diploma there.

Later, Mariam studied Marketing at Makerere University Business School. She also earned a Diploma in Music, Dance and Drama from Makerere University. This is Uganda's oldest and largest public university.

Her Performing Journey

Mariam Ndagire started acting in plays when she was just 15 years old. This was while she was still a student at Kampala High School. In 1987, she joined a theater group called the Black Pearls. She acted in many plays with them until 1993. While there, she helped write her first play, "Engabo Y'addako".

Later, Mariam Ndagire, along with Kato Lubwama and Ahraf Simwogerere, started their own group. They called it the Diamonds' Ensemble. Together, they wrote several plays.

Mariam is very keen on helping young people who want to work in performing arts. Because of this, she created The Next Ugandan Music. This show is like American Idol, helping new singers get discovered.

She also started a special training program for filmmakers. It's called the Mariam Ndagire Film and Performing Arts Centre (MNFPAC). This center holds film workshops every year. Some famous people who have attended these workshops include Sarah Kisauzi Sentongo, an actress from the NTV Uganda TV series Deception, and screenwriter Usama Mukwaya.

In 2015, Mariam Ndagire was chosen to be part of the JURY for the AFRICA MAGIC VIEWERS' CHOICE AWARDS (AMVCA). In 2019, she was also appointed as a committee member for the Grand Jury of the GOLDEN MOVIE AWARDS AFRICA.
