Marian Ethel Mercer (born November 26, 1935 – died April 27, 2011) was a talented American actress and singer. She was known for her work on both the stage and television.
Marian Mercer's Acting Career
Marian Mercer was born in Akron, Ohio. She studied at the University of Michigan. After college, she spent several summers acting in local plays. Her first big step was performing in a musical called Greenwillow on Broadway in 1960.
She quickly gained attention for her acting skills. In 1962, she was praised for her role in New Faces of 1962. Later, she won a special award called the Tony Award for her amazing performance in the musical Promises, Promises in 1968. She also received the Drama Desk Award and the Theatre World Award for this role.
Television and Film Roles
Marian Mercer was a familiar face on television. She appeared in many popular shows. These included The Sandy Duncan Show and A Touch of Grace. She also played Nancy Beebe Miller in the funny show It's a Living. She was one of the few actors who stayed with the show for its entire run.
She also had recurring roles in other TV series. These included Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and Empty Nest. Marian also made guest appearances on many well-known shows. Some of these were The Golden Girls, Murder, She Wrote, and Touched by an Angel.
Marian Mercer also acted in movies. She appeared in John and Mary (1969). She was also in Oh, God! Book II (1980) and the popular movie 9 to 5 (1980). In 9 to 5, she played the character Missy Hart.
Later Life and Passing
Marian Mercer lived in California later in her life. She passed away on April 27, 2011, at the age of 75. She died from Alzheimer's disease.
