About Marianela de la Hoz

Marianela de la Hoz was born in Mexico City. In 2012, when she was 40 years old, she moved to San Diego, USA. She studied graphic design at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico City. Marianela worked as a graphic designer for ten years. After that, she decided to become a painter. She is married and has a daughter named Mariana and a son named Bernardo.

Her love for art started when she was young. But it was not until she was 25 that she chose to focus on painting. She wanted to create art instead of digital designs. Marianela's art style is sometimes called "white violence." This is because she uses dark humor and fantasy. She uses these tools to show the more challenging parts of human life. Her paintings help people think deeply about important ideas. She explores topics like politics, fairness, and different beliefs. Her artwork has been shown in galleries, museums, and universities worldwide.

How Marianela Paints

Marianela de la Hoz uses a special painting method called egg tempera. She learned this old technique from a book called Il libro dell’arte by Cennino Cennini. This method takes a lot of time. Marianela says it lets her "talk" with the characters she is painting.

Her paintings are usually small. This small size helps her capture every tiny detail. It also brings the viewer closer to the artwork. Marianela's grandfather was one of her inspirations. She remembers him saying, "He would point out strange things about the world, but always thought it was important to have good manners."
