Marianne Maderna was born in Austria in 1944. Her mother, Katharina, worked with books. Her father, Karl Bruckner, wrote books for children.

Early Life and Education

From 1959 to 1964, Marianne studied at the Graphic Training and Research Institute in Vienna, Austria. After a short time in the United States, she came back to Austria. She then went to the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, finishing her studies in 1969.

Awards and Recognition

Marianne Maderna has received important awards for her art. In 1991, she won the Honorary Prize of Lower Austria. In 1996, she was given the City of Vienna Prize for Visual Art. Today, Marianne lives in Vienna and also in Aggsbach, a town in Lower Austria. In 2014, she helped start the MMMuseum in the Aggsbach Charterhouse.

In 2013, she created a huge art project called "Humanimals." This was shown at the Dominican Church in Krems. It was a large installation with thousands of sculptures that glowed in the dark. It also had a hand-drawn 3D animation that you could walk through. In the same year, she walked across the Danube River using special shoes she made herself. She did this dressed as a female pope.

In 2015, the University of Vienna celebrated its 650th birthday. For this event, Marianne Maderna created 36 busts (sculptures of heads and shoulders) of famous women. These were placed next to the 153 busts of famous men already at the university. This project was called "Radical Busts."
