Early Life and Travels
Marianne Wiggins was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In 1965, she married Brian Porzak. They had one daughter together. The couple later divorced in 1970.
Wiggins spent many years living in different countries. She lived in London for 16 years. She also spent time in cities like Paris, Brussels, and Rome.
Life with Salman Rushdie
In 1988, Marianne Wiggins married another writer, Salman Rushdie. They were living in London. In 1989, a religious leader in Iran issued a special order against Rushdie. This order was because of his book, The Satanic Verses.
Even though Wiggins and Rushdie were having problems in their marriage, she stayed with him. They both had to go into hiding for a while. They later divorced in 1993.
Overcoming Challenges
In 2016, Marianne Wiggins had a stroke. This made it very hard for her to read or write. For a writer, this was a huge challenge.
But Wiggins did not give up. She worked hard to get her abilities back. With help from her daughter, Lara Porzak, she slowly regained her skills. She was able to finish her novel, Properties of Thirst, after several years.

Today, Marianne Wiggins lives in Los Angeles, California. She has been teaching English at the University of Southern California since 2005.
