María Isabel Verdú Rollán (born 2 October 1970), known as Maribel Verdú, is a famous Spanish actress. She has won many awards during her long career, which has lasted almost 40 years. These awards include two Goya Awards for Best Actress (Spain's top film awards), an Ariel Award for Best Actress from Mexico, and special honors like the Gold Medal from the Spanish Film Academy in 2008 and the National Cinematography Award in 2009.
Maribel Verdú started acting when she was just thirteen years old in the film Captain Sánchez's Crime (1985). She has been in many well-known movies such as Lovers (1991), Belle Époque (1992), Lucky Star (1997), Y tu mamá también (2001), and Pan's Labyrinth (2006). She also appeared in The Flash (2023) as Nora Allen, which was her second superhero movie role.

Early life and beginnings
Maribel Verdú was born in Madrid, Spain. She started her acting journey at 13 by appearing in various commercials. By the age of 15, she decided to leave school to focus completely on her acting career. Since 1984, Verdú has starred in more than 60 movies, mostly in Spanish. She has also been part of many television shows.
Maribel Verdú's acting career
Maribel's first professional experience was as a model for commercials and fashion magazines. Her first chance on television came when she was 13. She appeared in a TV series called La huella del crimen.
She made her first movie appearance in El sueño de Tánger when she was 14. However, this film was not released until 1991. Her first movie that was shown in theaters was El orden cómico in 1986.
A film called 27 Hours, directed by Montxo Armendáriz, was a very important experience for her early in her career. After this movie, she started getting roles in more significant films. These included Hostages in the Barrio and Year of Enlightment.
Verdú has mentioned that her role in the film Lovers helped her grow as an actress. After that, she worked with many famous directors. She appeared in Cradle Song, Belle Époque (which won an Academy Award), and Lucky Star. For her role in Lucky Star, she received another Goya Award nomination.
She made her first international film appearance in Y tu mamá también (2001). In this movie, she played Luisa Cortés, a woman from Madrid who goes on a road trip across Mexico. In 2006, she played Mercedes, a maid and helper for the rebels, in the movie Pan's Labyrinth. In 2007, Maribel Verdú was invited to become a member of the AMPAS, the group that gives out the Academy Awards. Her performance in Seven Billiard Tables (2007) earned her first Goya Award for Best Actress.
In 2010, Maribel starred in a music video for Alejandro Sanz's song "Lola Soledad". Her role as Encarna (the evil stepmother) in the black-and-white silent film Snow White (2012) won her a second Goya Award. In 2017, she appeared in Abracadabra, playing Carmen, a housewife.
Maribel Verdú started acting in theater in 1986, playing the character of Julieta. Since then, she has continued to work in both theater and cinema. She has also appeared in television shows like Turno de oficio and Segunda enseñanza.
In 2018, she starred in the comedy film Empowered, playing Paz, a woman who decides to speak up more. She also appeared in the comedy Crime Wave as Leyre. Additionally, she played Agatha, a villain from another planet, in the superhero comedy film Superlópez.
In 2020, she began filming the TV series ANA. all in. This was her first TV role since 2003. She played Ana Tramel, a lawyer.
In March 2021, she was cast as Barry Allen/The Flash's mother Nora Allen in the DC Extended Universe film The Flash, which was released in June 2023. She also played Olivia Uriarte, an unusual millionaire, in the mystery film A Deadly Invitation. She appeared as Carmen in season 7 of the teen drama series Elite. In 2023, she was in the film Familia.
In 2024, it was announced that she joined the TV series When No One Sees Us. She will play Lucía Gutiérrez, a police agent investigating a case. In December 2024, she received the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts, a special honor for artists.
Personal life
Maribel Verdú married Pedro Larrañaga on 2 September 1999. Pedro is also from a family of actors.
