In 1853, she started working as a teacher in England. A few years later, in 1858, she took another teaching job in Russia.

When she returned to Germany, Marie Calm managed a school for girls in Kassel. She also helped to create the Association of German Teachers. This shows how dedicated she was to improving education.

Marie Calm was one of the first members of the General German Women's Association. This important group worked to improve the lives of women in Germany. She also helped organize the Kassel Women's Education Association. This group opened a special school to teach women useful skills, like home economics. Their main goal was to give women more chances for education and better job opportunities.

Besides her work as an educator, Marie Calm was also a talented writer. She wrote books about managing a household and proper manners. She also wrote several novels, which are fictional stories.
