Marieke Huisman was born on May 3, 1973, in Utrecht, Netherlands. She is a Dutch Computer Scientist. She works as a professor at the University of Twente. There, she teaches about making computer programs work perfectly. She also leads a team that uses special methods to build reliable software. This field is called Software Reliability.

Her Journey in Computer Science

Marieke Huisman finished her studies at Utrecht University in 1996. She then earned her PhD in 2001 from Radboud University Nijmegen. A PhD is a very high university degree. For her PhD, she wrote a big paper called a "dissertation." It was about checking if computer programs written in Java would always work correctly. Her supervisor for this work was Henk Barendregt.

Working in France and the Netherlands

From 2001 to 2008, Marieke Huisman worked in France. She was at the INRIA Sophia Antipolis Research Centre. After that, she moved back to the Netherlands. She joined the University of Twente.

She received important grants for her research. In 2010, she got an ERC Starting Grant. In 2017, she received an NWO Vici Grant. These grants help scientists pay for their research projects.

Becoming a Professor

Marieke Huisman became a full professor at the University of Twente in July 2017. A full professor is a very senior teaching position. She gave a special speech on January 26, 2021.
