Marielli Sfakianaki was born in Athens, Greece. Her father was Kostas Sfakianakis, a famous pianist, composer, and music expert from Crete. Marielli followed in her father's footsteps. She studied vocal music at the Athens Conservatory. She finished her studies there in 1971.

Marielli Sfakianaki-Manolidou also has a daughter. Her daughter's name is Tatiana Manolidou. Tatiana is also a composer, just like her mother and grandfather.
