Competing for the Crown
As one of 24 finalists, Mariem showed her unique style and charm. During the grand final show of Miss Venezuela 2017, she received two special awards. She was named Best Style and Miss Photogenic. After the competition, she took over the role from Diana Croce, who was the first runner-up in Miss Venezuela 2016.
Winning Miss International

On November 9, 2018, Mariem Velazco was crowned Miss International 2018. The previous winner, Kevin Lilliana Junaedy from Indonesia, placed the crown on her head. During the competition, Mariem proudly displayed her Venezuelan heritage. She wore a traditional native headdress and a beautiful evening gown decorated with pearls.
Her victory was very special for Venezuela. It marked the eighth time that Venezuela had won the Miss International crown. This means Venezuela holds the record for the most wins by any single country in this pageant's history.
