About Mariko Okada
Mariko Okada was born in Japan. Her father, Tokihiko Okada, was a silent film actor. This means he acted in movies that had no sound. He passed away when Mariko was very young. She was raised by her mother's sister.
Mariko Okada started her acting career in 1951. Her first movie was Dancing Girl, directed by Mikio Naruse. She worked with him again in other movies like Husband and Wife and Floating Clouds.
Later, she decided to leave her first film company, Toho studios. She then joined another company called Shochiku. There, she acted in movies by famous directors like Yasujirō Ozu. These movies included Late Autumn and An Autumn Afternoon. She also worked with Keisuke Kinoshita and Heinosuke Gosho.
In 1962, Mariko Okada made her 100th movie! It was called Akitsu Springs. This film was special because it was directed by Yoshishige Yoshida, who later became her husband. From 1965 to 1971, she starred in all of his movies. These were often unique and experimental films.
