Marilyn Hall (born May 17, 1927 – died June 5, 2017) was a talented Canadian producer for television and theatre. She also wrote for TV shows and even wrote songs. Marilyn was also known for her kindness, supporting many charities, especially those helping Jewish communities in the United States and Israel.

Early Life and Education

Marilyn Doreen Plottel was born on May 17, 1927, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She loved learning and went to the University of Toronto. There, she earned her first college degree.

Later, she continued her studies at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. She earned a special advanced degree called a Master of Fine Arts.

Career Highlights

Marilyn Hall started her career working in radio for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. She was very creative and soon began writing songs. One of her songs, "Is It Possible That I’ve Been Gone So Long," was even recorded by a famous singer named Hildegarde.

She also became a television writer for popular shows like Love, American Style. Marilyn was also an associate producer for big theatre shows. These included Jelly's Last Jam and Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes.

On television, she produced several important films. She produced the PBS show The Ginger Tree and the 1984 film Nadia. She also produced A Woman Called Golda and Do You Remember Love?. Both of these films won special awards called Emmy Awards. Marilyn also produced documentary films for Tel Aviv University in Israel.

Besides her work in TV and theatre, Marilyn Hall was a book reviewer for the Los Angeles Times newspaper. She also co-wrote a cookbook called The Celebrity Kosher Cookbook in 1975.

Another daughter, Sharon Hall, became a president at a film studio. Their son, Richard Hall, is an Emmy Award-winning producer for the TV show The Amazing Race.
