The Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC) is a special group that helps animals. It started in 1978 and is located in Brigantine, New Jersey. The MMSC works to rescue, heal, and then release marine mammals and sea turtles that are in trouble.
They are the only animal hospital in New Jersey that is officially allowed by the government to rescue and care for marine mammals. Since 1978, the MMSC has helped over 6,325 whales, dolphins, seals, and sea turtles. These animals were found sick, hurt, or lost along the New Jersey coast.

Helping Marine Animals
The Marine Mammal Stranding Center is dedicated to saving ocean animals. When an animal is "stranded," it means it's found on land or in shallow water and can't get back to the ocean on its own. This can happen if the animal is sick, injured, or lost.
Rescue and Rehabilitation
The MMSC team responds quickly when they hear about a stranded animal. They carefully bring the animal to their special hospital. Here, veterinarians and trained staff give the animals the medical care they need. They make sure the animals get healthy and strong again.
Once an animal is fully recovered, the MMSC team releases it back into the ocean. This helps the animal return to its natural home.
Learning About Ocean Life
The Marine Mammal Stranding Center also teaches people about ocean animals. They want everyone to understand how important it is to protect marine life.
The Sea Life Museum
The MMSC has a place called the Sea Life Museum. It's a fun and educational spot where you can learn about the ocean. The museum has exhibits that you can touch and explore. These exhibits help you understand different marine animals and their habitats.
Educational Programs
The MMSC offers many programs about ocean life. These programs teach kids and adults about marine ecology, which is the study of how ocean animals and their environment work together. They also offer chances for older students to learn and help through internship programs.
